Microsoft is effectively packaging some of the power of GPT-4-style analysis (long context handling, complex reasoning) into domain-targeted “agents” that know how to work with enterprise data. The fact that Researcher can pull not just from web sources but from your organization’s trove of data (with permission gating via Microsoft Graph) means the answers are highly personalized and relevant, not one-size-fits-all. For example, if you ask a general AI about your company’s performance, it can’t help – but Copilot’s Researcher agent, having access to your SharePoint and OneDrive (and now even Teams chats as knowledge sources), can produce an analysis that’s actually grounded in internal truth.
